Enchanting little book
I bought this enchanting little book for my Mother for Mother's Day but might have to keep it for myself. Madeleine Floyd's paintings of 50 British birds are simple and beautiful with amusingly accurate descriptions of their songs and habits. I particularly like her comments about two birds; the Great Spotted Woodpecker, one of which thinks he's hiding in my apple tree from time to time:
"The male's call is a touch jabbering in sound and his musical repertoire is unfortunately non-existent";
and the Robin, one of which encourages me in my gardening:
"His song is beautiful and joyous and is sung with all his heart and soul".
A truly lovely book, which would be a great present for almost anyone, but for me it's a keeper, sorry Mum!
